5th International Conference on Contemporary Economic Issues

In advance of a final meeting for joint research project on Corporate Social Responsibility an international conference, under the participation of  the HIE-RO (represented by Lutz Laschewski and Pawel Warszycki), on "Modern economic issues. Globalization. Liberalization. Ethics " took place on 25th of April in the Faculty of Economics of the University of Szczecin.

The conference was organized by the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Management and Economics of Services of the University of Szczecin, the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics in Katowice and the Department of Economic Policy and European Regional Studies of the University of Economics in Wrocław. The conference topics covers a wide range of contemporary economic issues, which were then immersed in thematic sessions.

A lecture entitled "controversies and dilemmas" focused on economic problems of today's world economy under globalized conditions. For example the economic nationalism in the modern global economy and tourism in the process of globalization. In this context Pawel Warszycki (HIE-RO) described the regional economic impact of the Renewable Energy sector in a globalized world.

The subsequent session addressed the relationship between economics, ethics and the social sector - for example, whether "green jobs" can be a pillar for sustainable economic development.

In addition, selected problems of business practice were discussed.

Contents of the last major theme block were for example: non-financial performance indicators, current evaluation standards and concepts, the expenditure for research and development in the countries of the European Union as well as the problem of rural broadband infrastructure development in the EU.
