BBR project "European successful regions as model examples for Eastern Germany"
Content
1. There are three main challenges and also chances for Europe 27 and their countries: globalisation, transformation to knowlege society and demografic challenge.
2. The consequences of these mega trends are e.g. competition caused by lack of human capital as well as growing regional disparities, global diversification and new hierarchy of regions.
3. On one hand there are economically succesful regions like metropolitan knowledge and innovation areas and networks, e.g. London, Vienna, Barcelona, Stockholm, etc., and on the other hand there are agricultural and postindustrial lagging behind regions with low GDP, low innovation intensity, decline of population and migration, e.g. South Italy, .Lothringen, Eastern Poland, etc..
4. Furthermore, in Eastern Germany one can observe growing disparities among regions, neighbouring areas of innovation and stagnation. In general one can clearly distinguish between north and south, west and east and also agglomerations and rural areas.
5. The above described differences are not only the cause of problems but also the source of development potentials, which can be created by proper economic policy and regional development. European success areas show that the use of these mechanisms and endorgeneous potential of regions can cause their fast growth into centres of excellence and innovation.
6. The preparatory study was focused on identifying adequate development models and funding schemes in order to foster the potential of new Eastern German states. The study was based on comparing succesful regions with similiar characteristic.

BEPART - Baltic Entrepreneurship Partners
Content
BEPART is a network project of 12 institutions (mostly universities) in the Baltic Sea Area. The project is led by the University of Rostock/ HIE-RO. Two major fields of work constitute the project:
Expected results for Rostock:
BEPART has already contributed a great deal for an improving international reputation of the University of Rostock which is working as lead partner.
Above all BEPART may help the university and region to further internationalize their activities and orientation towards the Baltic Sea Region, to build new partnerships into the regions of BEPART-institutions, to get into deeper know-how-transfer on entrepreneurship & regional development. Finally we expect that especially our student entrepreneurs may profit from the work of BEPART. For example, new case studies to be developed in BEPART can be used in trainings and students will profit by working and learning with these tailor-made cases.
Duration and Financing:
From July 2004 until December 2007. Total Budget: 1,9 Mio €. All partners of the network contribute with financing; BEPART is part financed by the European Union, Interreg III C.
